Nudes Masked - A Head of Your Own Design
Albert and Christine have assembled here a website that is both intellectually and visually stimulating. The basic concept is nudity, the masking of it, how we expose or view ourselves and others and how we cover or protect ourselves. Many variations on these themes are explored. Up front there are a collection of well-footnoted essays on topics like modesty, nude photography, the historical wearing of masks, and so forth, with authors ranging from Michael Foucault to Carol Queen and many more. They include a lengthy bibliography. They have samples from such famous photographers as Charles Gatewood and Ken Marcus. They solicit participants, and offer access to those who contribute. They are known for the bag shots... people take a brown paper grocery bag and draw faces on two sides of it, and have their pictures taken wearing the bag; one clothed and one nude. Groups who have participated have ranged from the Cacophony Society to an 80 year old Jungian analyst from Zurich. The diversity is amazing. This isn\'t a \'smut\' site; there is nothing really erotic shown. The unclothed human body is seen in all it\'s infinite variety though. Well worth a visit, and a project worth supporting.
